I think it's fair to say that for a lot of people, that's a big draw, and a significant desire! Sure you may also think it's cuter, or that fits your character better, but I don't think it exactly stops there, ya know? We're influenced by what we see, by what we have or think we can't reach, as well as all that in what's going on with our peers, and our wants and tastes evolve and shape around that. The physical exhaustion of the fursuit's extra weight, size, and heat are gone, it doesn't take dozens of extra hours and hundreds or thousands of extra dollars to acquire, and boom! You can have that "extra" something you saw out of reach before, and have been potentially perceiving as the fullest extent of being able to be an animal person is.Right there! Jumping into VR, suddenly a lot of the barriers are gone when it comes to character design. And like, hella that's totally cool! But being a physical object full of foam and padding and fabric and heat, they're more difficult to wear, more taxing to romp around in, and require more of you in ways beyond the extra monetary cost to acquire.Īnd all that wrapped up, you have an echelon of "something more" that's a bit of an ingrained desire or possible bias in a LOT of folks when it comes to ways to BE your fursona. Some view em as an extra step to BEING your fursona, BEING that animal person, embodying something beyond the human you're stuck in. The highest rung you can get with all the bells and whistles. They're more exaggerated and shaped, there's more animal and less human, and they're also more expensive, more out of reach, and more exclusive because of that. I think it's fair to say that many furs into suits see digitigrase (aka digi legs) as a kind of "top tier". This next part may be a little contentious, but please bear with me. Specifically, the kinds of bodyshapes, legs, and paw styles of those fursuits. There's obviously a myriad of reasons why people want more animal-liked features, folks making avatars prefer it, maybe advantages to modeling (I dunno), but I think a VERY big influence is, as I said earlier, fursuits. I'll elaborate.īy and large, the vast majority of furry avatars are digitigrade. I also think expectations, hierarchies of desirability, and aspirations of that also affect vrchat avatar design, especially regarding leg style. Fursuits have decades of being physical interpretations of the animals we are, and re-interpreting that into a physical-digital realm where we directly interact as them just makes sense. I'm not too sure of where you can find them, but Trap Chan's Avatar Mall has a few, and otherwise you just need to import some using the diverse tutorials there are for it, whether it is with rigging and adapting a 3D Model or using CATS plugin to deal with MMDs.I think it's fair to say that fursuit design has a big influence on the design and proportion and modeling design of VRChat furry avatars. I'm unaware of other places with constant furry population, but you can still see a few outside, those are just some pointers as to where you can see them a bit more in specific. So, that's where you can usually find them if you want to find a few randomly on those servers. Meanwhile the other place, Best Boi Studios, is for some sort of "Anti Ugandan Defence Force" (not forcedfully) lead on by the fantasy creature "Dutch Angel Dragon" created by fursuiter Telephone, and modeled, modified and worked over by thekibblemeister. One place has some sort of "Hyena Tribe" full of DarnHyena's model work, and his open-source models that some people choose to retexture and work on aswell, but you also find all sort of furries and characters there. Hyenidae Emporium (if I spelled it right), and Best Boi Studios. There aren't many furries generally in most other worlds (for whatever reason that I'm unaware of), since I only mostly see myself with an exception of one or two people a week.īut where I can ALWAYS guarantee you there'll be furries are these two places: Hey, I'm a furry myself - while I don't like to hang around their crowd too much, I can tell you usually where a lot of furries are, almost guaranteed you'll always see one or two, and likely to see from 5 to 15. Jean Baptiste Perrin claimed in his Nobel lecture that he was the first one to suggest the model in his paper dated 1901. Thomson also had rings of orbiting electrons. It did mention the atomic model of Hantaro Nagaoka, in which the electrons are arranged in one or more rings, with the specific metaphorical structure of the stable rings of Saturn. The Rutherford model served to concentrate a great deal of the atom's charge and mass to a very small core, but didn't attribute any structure to the remaining electrons and remaining atomic mass. This was in a gold atom known to be 10 −10 metres or so in radius-a very surprising finding, as it implied a strong central charge less than 1/3000th of the diameter of the atom. įrom purely energetic considerations of how far particles of known speed would be able to penetrate toward a central charge of 100 e, Rutherford was able to calculate that the radius of his gold central charge would need to be less (how much less could not be told) than 3.4 × 10 −14 metres. In this May 1911 paper, Rutherford only committed himself to a small central region of very high positive or negative charge in the atom.įor concreteness, consider the passage of a high speed α particle through an atom having a positive central charge N e, and surrounded by a compensating charge of N electrons. In it, the atom is made up of a central charge (this is the modern atomic nucleus, though Rutherford did not use the term "nucleus" in his paper) surrounded by a cloud of (presumably) orbiting electrons. Rutherford presented his own physical model for subatomic structure, as an interpretation for the unexpected experimental results. Most of the beams went through the foil, but a few were deflected. If Thomson was correct, the beam would go straight through the gold foil. Rutherford designed an experiment to use the alpha particles emitted by a radioactive element as probes to the unseen world of atomic structure. Rutherford overturned Thomson's model in 1911 with his well-known gold foil experiment in which he demonstrated that the atom has a tiny and heavy nucleus. This region would be known as the atomic nucleus.Įxperimental basis for the model Rutherford's new model for the atom, based on the experimental results, contained new features of a relatively high central charge concentrated into a very small volume in comparison to the rest of the atom and with this central volume containing most of the atom's mass. Thomson's plum pudding model of the atom was incorrect. Rutherford directed the Geiger–Marsden experiment in 1909, which suggested, upon Rutherford's 1911 analysis, that J. The Rutherford model was devised by the New Zealand-born physicist Ernest Rutherford to describe an atom. 3D animation of an atom incorporating the Rutherford model and applies to online course, live webinars, digital seminars, DVDs only. *Offer expires Tuesday, Februat 11:59 p.m. Rabbits for Sale 8 Views $50 Holland Lop Bunnies for Easter! It does freeze sometimes while doing rather simple stuff (copy / paste, editing, etc). Much nicer & intuitive interface than other Adobe products, and not too buggy. The tutorial is very basic, and the Material Design component sheet is not quite complete, but it's a good start. It's still (very) far from being on-par with Sketch, but it has some cool ideas & it's quite usable right now. Update 5 (December 2017): I've done a couple of designs with it. I'll try to completely design the next project with it and post some impressions. It's quite more usable now, even if it's still far from being on-par with Sketch, I'd say it's the best looking alternative right now. Update 4 (June 2017): The latest builds of Experience Design (it's being updated monthly on Windows 10) introduced an object navigator, and it's drag & drop since the last build. Still have to try it "seriously" to have a proper opinion about it. Update 3 (December 2016): JustInMind Prototyper also seems interesting for Windows, even if it doesn't handle greatly HiDPI and doesn't seem as intuitive as Sketch. (not having an object navigator kills it for me for now) Seems it has quite a long way to go to have all the Sketch functionality though, very very beta. Update 2 (December 2016): It's now available for Windows 10 Anniversary Update as well. Sadly only for Mac now, but it'll be available for Windows in "late 2016" according to Adobe. Update (February 2016): you can now try the public preview of Experience Design CC (previously known as Project Comet). We'll see how it goes, but right now I use Sketch on a El Capitán virtual machine with VMWare and it works pretty well! It seems that they are now creating a copy "heavily inspired by Sketch" app: Project Comet. Fireworks is probably the closest, and it's no longer supported by Adobe. And no, Illustrator and such are NOT Sketch alternatives. After trying a bunch of Windows applications, I haven't found anything equivalent to Sketch for Windows. the Interactive Multi-Sensor Snow and Ice Mapping System, Matson and Wiesnet 1981). Sophisticated interactive human-machine software is enabling forecasters to interact more with both observations and predictions and to create digital products based on human interpretation of observations or forecasts (e.g. Observations are not only critical inputs to the model prediction process but are also needed by the forecaster and for verification. 7.1), while recognizing that predictions are increasingly input directly into hazard models. For clarity, in this chapter, we make a distinction between predictions, produced by NWP models, nowcasting systems or statistical processing, and forecasts, generated by forecasters based on the interpretation of predictions (see Fig. Warnings are especially important in densely populated urban environments where hazards can lead to a cascade of impacts (Baklanov et al. infrastructure and construction codes) and expectations are particularly important. Figure 7.1 provides an overview of the scope of the chapter, in which we shall describe: This chapter addresses the challenge of forecasting hazardous weather, focusing on the collaborations needed to meet the requirements of prediction models and forecasters for observations of the current state of the atmosphere. Examples are presented of partnerships in space observing and in aviation, a demonstration system from Canada, and the use of testbeds and observatories as environments for progress. However, the latest high-resolution models require new approaches to obtaining observations that will require different collaborations. There has been a long history of close working between sensor and platform designers and meteorologists that has produced spectacular advances in forecast accuracy. Then, we explore the wide variety of sensors and platforms used to obtain this information. In this chapter, we first look at the methods used to predict the weather and the resulting demands for observations. To be useful, they require knowledge of the current atmospheric state as a starting point. The steady stream of strong winds will cause incredible wave heights across portions of the Great Lakes as well. It is bringing strong effects, felt for a longer duration, simply because the storm is not moving. The reason is a strong area of low pressure, which has stalled out over the Great Lakes region. Parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula have already seen up to 18 inches of snow and another two feet are possible through Tuesday. Meteorologists from the National Weather Service office in Marquette, Michigan, are describing the event as “a historic late spring snowstorm the likes of which we have not seen here in Upper Michigan since May of 1990.” Heavy snow, torrential rain, gusty winds and possible record cold high temperatures will make for a pretty miserable start to the week weather-wise. In the Midwest, the unofficial start to summer with barbecues seems a little far-fetched as people are still shoveling and having to clear snow off their grills before they even think about using them.Īnother late-season storm is bringing wintry conditions this week to parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley. |
